Cooper Gallery sits in a quaint walkway on Cooper Street, just a stride away from the bustling quay in the historic port of Bideford. Bideford is a few miles from the North Devon central town of Barnstaple and is surrounded by the pretty nearby villages of Instow, Appledore, Westward Ho, and unique Clovelly.
The walls of Cooper Gallery are adorned with exquisite watercolours from the 19th and early 20th century by artists such as William Widgery, John White, Reginald Sherrin, Ernest Stuart, Edward Trick, John Shapland and Lilian Stannard.
We believe the collection in the gallery represents the best of local artists at prices to suit everyone. A large proportion of the art on display illustrates local scenery, often painted and signed by artists that resided in the South West coastal area at some point in their lives. Each painting held in Cooper Gallery is unique therefore it is not only a possession to cherish and adore each day, but a prudent financial investment to treasure for generations to come.
It is so enjoyable to admire the painstaking skills of an artist each day of each week, month and year. Cooper Gallery specialises in uncommon coastal scenery, colourful countryside views, and garden scenes along with nautical paintings, or flowers, still life fruits and more, including quality intaglio prints. Recently introduced have been photographs of Bideford by an award winning local photographer Graham Hobbs, and unique colourful watercolour and oil art produced by artists residing in Bideford such as Rosie Burns and Sheila Scoular.
Fine art at Cooper Gallery was established in 1996, and has developed a reputation for quality in North Devon. The gallery changed ownership on 23 December 2008 - the new owner Jeanette has broadened the type of art on offer, and included a new comprehensive range of locally produced Dartington glass and crystal.
Cooper Art Gallery aims to provide an exceptionally high standard of customer service to buyers and browsers in the gallery - Jeanette will endeavour to source all requests for art and glassware. Her aim is to make a visit to Cooper Art Gallery an informative and enjoyable experience. The artists responsible for the art held in the gallery are researched and where possible a handout is produced for you to take away and inform your friends and family. Your visit is welcomed and she’ll enjoy discussing the ideas you have in mind to either spoil yourself, or someone important to you. We look foward to seeing you soon!
