Lots 'n lots of shopping
This week I’ve been busy buying – not difficult I can assure you as I am a recovering shopperholic!
Numerous paintings will be arriving in the next couple of weeks. Subjects ranging from:
- an oil painting of a sparrow, to a pair of terrier dogs;
- intricate old marine scenes in watercolour, to a pretty cottage scene;
- from bright colourful/cheerful prints of people in a restaurant, to gentle mallard ducks or foxhounds;
- unusually for Cooper Gallery, it will include a 1930′s and a 1950′s cartoon;
- there’s a fab bronze dog joining me in the gallery, along with an elegant Royal Doulton Figurine;
- and finally, a graceful pastel portrait of a classical lady.
I’d better start moving things around to make room, as it’s tight enough for customers to manoeuvre among the treasures as it is!
Well now the winter is almost over, I plan to swing open the gallery door on Thursday 7th April.
There will be a marked difference to the look of the gallery inside … with lots of new items in the product ranges introduced.
- Lots and lots of Cupids will make a romantic statement.
- A new line in Cornish hand-made terracota plaques will suit gardens and patios, as well as homes.
- Ornate and interesting mirrors will appeal to those wanting something different to that available in the well known high street shops – I wonder where the mirrors have hung in previous years, and who looked into them and polished them? “Mirror, mirror on the wall …..”
All of the above, and still the beautiful original watercolour and oil paintings from the 19th and 20th century!!
I’ll be opening from 11.00 a.m. until 5.00 p.m. on Tuesday’s, Thursday’s, Friday’s and Saturdays.
I look forward to seeing you very soon.
Not long now until the gallery doors re-open for the summer season!
During the last three months Jeanette has been sourcing new stock for the gallery – the new line in mirrors will be an exciting addition, and will compliment the watercolours and oils on display. Your reflection in a distinctive frame may be more beautiful than the art on offer!!!

That's tall
It’s amazing how tall some people are growing these day – is there something in the Bideford water? Look at this couple walking past the gallery – I only wish I’d thought to ask them to tap the Cooper Gallery sign into the correct position after a windy time the night before!!
The sherry is flowing, the mince pies are warming (with the heat from two heaters), and chocolates are being devoured. Come on you art lovers, come and get your pressies, we’ve seen you looking in the window, just venture through the door!

- Cheers

Yes, tonight is the first of our four ‘Christmas Late Night Shopping Events’, with warming tots of alcohol and mince pies to make venturing out in this cold weather more appealing.
The small heater in the gallery is not hitting the spot, so big guns are needed, and an extra heater is being bought. Here in Bideford it is extremely nippy, but we don’t have the beauty that snow brings – no snow scenes YET. It tried really hard this morning, but attempts to cover the ground with white stuff were pathetic, so at least the birds around here can locate their next meal.
Blimey what a quiet Saturday this is! Hardly any people are out and about in Bideford, the roads were very quiet on the way in to the gallery today. It’s now 4.10 p.m. , already it’s fairly dark, and I know it’s very cold, but at least there’s no rain or sign of snow – shouldn’t folk be out looking for pressies now as it’s only four weeks today that Christmas will be in full flow?
I’ve decided to start my January sale early, so now there is 10% off all art and Dartington glass/crystal.
