Cooper Gallery is very pleased to be able to offer this unusual item.

Reg Lloyd a local artist, and Ted Hughes an acclaimed poet, combined their skills to have prints prepared for an exhibition held many years ago.

There are 24 prints available, all with individual subjects of art, and verses – some depict animals (cow, otter, donkey, pig) whilst others birds (owl, crow, robin) or insects (stickleback, red admiral) amongst the 24 topics.

All 24 prints are currently hanging in a local restaurant, but luckily the owner is now prepared to take them into the art market – this is a rare opportunity.

See below more detailed images, and contact Jeanette on 07932 999192 or www.sales@cooperartgallery.co.uk to make an offer for all 24 in excess of £250.

Examples of the 24 prints

Size is 30 x42 cms. They are all held in secure and simple, ready to hang, glass clip-frames, with the high quality cream print being mounted on light blue paper. There have been offers to buy individual prints, to suit potential buyers favourite subjects (cat lovers go for the cat print), but it would seem a great shame to split up this exceptional collection.

See below the detail involved in the Reg Lloyd ‘Dog’ print, and the wonderful verse from Ted Hughes that accompanies it.

You imagine having a portrait commissioned would cost hundreds of pounds, but no, for as little as £95 including mount and frame, you can have your very own moment in time captured by a skilled artist.

So much interest is being shown in the self-portrait done by Adam that is now being display in the window at Cooper Gallery .

Take a look below at a more detailed image of his likeness to the accompanying photograph.

Adam prefers to meet his clients and not rely solely on working from photographs. Commissions are practised by an initial free consultation where prelimenary sketchs and pictures are taken. The piece is then finished in his Woolacombe studio, followed by a personal presentation to the client for approval.

I’m pleased to have met a local artist from Woolacombe who is going to provide a unique portraiture service for customers of Cooper Gallery. You will be able to commission this artist at a modest price, and encapture your loved ones – wife, husband, daughter, son, grandchildren, mother or father.

Adam is an established artist working in pastels, chalks and charcoal to produce stunning likenesses that you can have mounted and framed, or left for you to choose. This artist likes to meet the client for a sitting/sketch but is able to work from photographs if preferred.

This service will be available in July, so watch this space for examples of his work and more information.

1860 Stained Glass with wording

Due to the interest shown for two recent beautiful pieces of original stained glass with religious content, we have now bought more to add to the range of art and mirrors.

The first piece sold from Cooper Gallery went to a local Bideford couple and then they returned a week later for the second piece.

So many browsers spotted them in the shop window and entered the gallery to discuss the small arched piece along with a square piece quoting brief religious text – it is so hard to show their beauty in the window.

Window display of stained glass

The beauty is apparent from inside the shop with the light outside in the right place.

Light in the best position

One very large piece, depicting a man kneeling and praying with clasped hands, has just been taken off to the skilled restorer in Bideford, and will return for display on Thursday of next week – it has fine painting detail, and exquisite flower detail. Additionally we have three further panes with wording and delicate colourful painted detail – see the photographs above.

The feedback received from browsers is that they find it incredibly hard to buy stained glass that has 10′s or 100′s of years of history – there are obviously many forms of modern stained glass on the market. Keep your eye out for a ’Stained Glass’ section of this site, in the near future, because more will be arriving after I track it down and bring it back to Bideford.

Eventually, after numerous phone calls, backward and forward between technical support helplines and the auction house in question, I managed to secure a piece of art today that I really wanted to buy. It is so unusual!

Help was needed

Firstly it is a pastel of a flower arrangement, which is far less available than watercolours or oils.

Secondly it is signed by Harold Cox RA.

Thirdly it is one of my favourite subjects of daisies and marigolds.

Fourthly it is in a lovely (appropriate) ornate frame.

Fifthly (? such a word) and finally it is painted in an unusual perspective – almost like a convex or fisheye style.

The process of buying it went right up to the wire, with a last minute commission bid that was successful, after pestering a helpful member of the auction room staff when the auction was well under way with only 25 lots left before my desired painting.

Displayed in the gallery window 01.06.11

It just goes to prove the old saying “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, and try again”. It’s all mine for the time being, until a customer takes a shine to it.
